Summary: "Excellent life jacket for toddlers"

I was given advice on purchasing a life vest with head support for my toddler and after much research, decided on this one. I bought 2 of them, one for my son and the other for my niece to use on our boat and they're both very comfortable in them. There are no foam inserts on the back of this vest so its very comfy to sit and even sleep in, just in the event the little one falls asleep on board. I've used the Stearns Child's Classic Boating Vest and also the Stearns Kids Puddle Jumper Deluxe Life Jacket before but this one is definitely the best of the three. It IS a little pricier than the others but the extra protection and security is definitely worth it when you have a toddler in a boat.

Size wise...my son just turned 3 years old, weighs 35lbs and is almost 40" tall. This jacket still has a bit of room adjustable by the encircling strap around the waist. Would definitely recommend for toddlers. My husband and I feel very secure when on board now with our son wearing this vest.

Summary: "Great secure fit, worth the money"

Kids felt safe,and so did I with this jacket on them, If you can go to West Marine to try to fit the kids first that would be good, because the sizes are really not what is described, for my 5 year old daughter I would of bought the youth size not the child size, but I have a 2 year old, than can use it in the future. But overall you won't be disappointed.

Summary: "beware the zipper"

This vest is probably very safe, but beware that it zips up instead of just snapping shut with a trio of adjustable waist clamps like the one I ended up purchasing. My petite, 20-lb son was too big for the zipper to zip across his waist/chest so we had to return it (for a crazy restocking fee by Gizmos for Life).

As per the other review, I was very careful to order the 30-50lb size.
I like this vest because my 4yr olds cant swim, but under 30lbs is too small, and i want the head floatation, large arm holes, the handle in the back and the crotch strap. very few vests have all those in a larger size. i'm not taking any chances on a kid dropped in the water accidentally slipping through or panicking in the evening being in a scary lake while the boat turns around and getting a mouthful and... better safe than sorry. after the child can swim, then a cooler vest without the head stuff.
SELLER: so I originally thought they were fly by night, but not so. They DID actually send me the wrong size, as per the other review, I got the <30lb version. I called them, right to voice mail, I emailed them thinking nothing would happen. I was happily surprised to get a quick response email, they offered me some compensation if I could use the wrong size AND they levelled with me about how long it would really take to get the right size, as I have a boating trip coming up. In the end I have to return it and buy it from another vendor to get it in time, but Apex definitely showed near Zappos-like customer service. (they're the gold standard).
